- A new way to give to EECM online!
When you arrive at eecm.org/give, you will notice a BIG change! When you click the ‘Donate Online’ button, you’ll arrive at a page that looks like this: ‘Causes’ are the biggest ‘buckets’ where we use donations. These are our three main service areas: Hunger, I.M.P.A.C.T.S., and Children & Youth, plus a general EECM ‘cause’, if you can’t decide. ‘Projects’ are the smaller buckets, or the specific programs we operate under those big umbrellas. For example, Education & Employment is one part of I.M.P.A.C.T.S., and is a ‘project’ of that ‘cause’. Summer Day Camp is one part of our Children & Youth services, and falls under that ‘cause’. We will be adding more projects as we change or add new programs. We will also add new projects as we have specific fundraising needs or campaigns. You will see a Have a Heart for Hunger project coming up on the page in February, and a Reach Out to City Kids (ROCK) Project next summer. As you browse the site and go between Causes and Projects, if you want to get back to this main catalog-type page, just click the magnifying glass at the top of the pages. You will also notice that the giving process is a lot more like online shopping. Donations are added to your cart, and you can keep searching for giving opportunities and then check out later. You can give as much to as many projects and causes as you would like! You can also create recurring donations to any project or cause, just like on the previous online giving page! You will have to sign in and create an account where our third-party processor will save your credit/debit card information and your account will be charged as you request. (If you set up a recurring gift online through our old page, it will stay the same! No need to change anything right now!) Even if you don’t want to set up an automatic monthly or quarterly gift, you can create an account. You can access your online giving history, and store credit/debit card information so you don’t have to re-enter all of your details each time you give. But, if you don’t want to create any more accounts with more passwords to change, you can continue giving as you always have, but now you have more options in an easier-to-use format! The coolest (in my opinion) feature is the ability for you, our supporters, to start your own fundraisers for EECM! You can choose a project that means the most to you and reach out to your own networks to raise money for that project! This would be a great option in lieu of gifts for a birthday or wedding. Get creative! Is your office holding a food drive for EECM? Add a personalized fundraiser page to have even more impact! This will also take the money-changing off of your hands. No more collecting checks made out to EECM from participants in a fundraiser – just send your friends and neighbors to your personalized giving page! As always, we want to help you help us! If you have questions or concerns, contact me (Carrie) via email or phone – 412-361-5549 x7120!
- Sewickley Academy Student Council Gives More Than Just Toys
In December, a group from the Sewickley Academy Student Council played Santa to hundreds of the youth we serve. Each year around Christmas time, the lower school at Sewickley Academy collects toys for kids in our programs for our Christmas gift drive. The Student Council runs the drive and collects and counts all the toys. This year, a big box was placed outside each classroom and students dropped toys in for 3 or 4 weeks. Their goal was to have one toy from each student in the Lower School, which would have been about 250 toys. On December 19, two vans came to Community House from Sewickley Academy, filled with 7 students, 2 teachers, and MORE THAN 300 TOYS. Bags and boxes and carts full of toys! After the vans were unloaded, Tracy talked for a few minutes to the students about the EECM kids who will receive these toys, often the only Christmas gifts they will have. In addition to the Sewickley Academy toys, other individuals and congregations provided more than 2100 gifts for more than 700 people in our programs. Thanks to ALL who helped us to give the gift of a happy holiday to so many families! #holidaygiving #holidayvolunteering #sewickleyacademy #sewickleyacademystudentcouncil
- EECM’s new Executive Director
There has been a lot of change at EECM in the last year! A new building, new and different programs, and now…(drumroll!!) The Board of Directors has announced that Michael J. Mingrone will succeed Myrna Zelenitz as the agency’s Executive Director, as of August 18. “I am very excited and eager to join the EECM team,” Michael said. “As we move forward, we will honor the successes of the past and strive to continue to build our programs and services in order to meet the needs of the community. We shall empower, engage and invest in the entire community with interfaith principles that have guided EECM since inception.” Michael comes to EECM from North Side Christian Health Center (NSCHC) where he has served as Associate Director and Chief Operating Officer since 2010. At NSCHC, Michael led the planning and direction of all programming areas of the organization, always working to ensure that the needs of the community were met effectively. He has extensive work and volunteer experience including community outreach, volunteer coordination, and fundraising in organizations such as the American Red Cross and the August Wilson Center for African American Culture. He also has experience teaching as a part-time instructor at the University of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris University. His educational background is in clinical psychology and he spent several years as a child and adolescent case manager at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. “We are excited to have Michael join our interfaith organization and look forward to working with him as he takes the reins of EECM,” said Carla E. Frost, president of EECM’s Board of Directors. “Michael has extensive experience, a broad background in the non-profit sector, integrity and character. More importantly, he has an understanding of, and a commitment to, EECM’s mission.” EECM staff and Board are all eagerly looking to the future as Michael steps in to lead the organization. We will continue to develop a living mission that is grounded in principle and purpose yet always evolving to meet changing community needs, equipped with a facility that will serve this mission for the next forty years.
